A MAN left his dog behind while trying to steal expensive materials from a roof.
A man was seen on the top of a roof trying to steal lead near the Russell Cotes Museum in Bournemouth's East Cliff.
After fleeing the scene, the offender left his car behind containing a dog.
Officers worked to free the dog from the car and later found and arrested the man.
A spokesperson for Bournemouth Police said: “Bournemouth South NPT Assisted our colleagues from D Squad response team and sprung into action first thing this morning when a male was spotted on a building's roof attempting to steal the lead.
“Quick response from both teams saw the suspect flee, leaving behind a vehicle with a dog inside.
“Thanks to the swift actions of PCSO Harold, the suspect has been apprehended and is assisting with the enquiries.
"The dog's welfare needs have been met.
“Your safety is our priority.”
