A well-known TV sports presenter has allegedly been arrested on suspicion of raping a child.

The reports come after The Sun shared that police carried out a 4am raid on the alleged married TV presenter's home earlier in the week.

The raid, on a property in southern England, is reported to have seen computer devices and documents taken away for examination.

The Sun further reported that detectives would question the man and added that he will be held in custody for 18 hours before he is released on bail "pending further enquiries".

The reports further alleged that the child was raped on more than one occasion, according to The Sun.

It has been reported that the suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was working in the television industry at the time the alleged offences took place.

The Sun further reports that the presenter's bosses have been made aware of the police investigation and the arrest.

However, it is alleged that the unnamed presenter's TV colleagues are unaware of the situation.

It is also reported that the complainant made the allegation recently and that it was later reported to the police.

The complainant was interviewed by child abuse investigation officers in a dedicated suite before an investigation was launched, reports The Sun.

The police force conducting the investigation further confirmed that an arrest had been made.

A neighbour speaking to The Sun on the arrest, said: "The police turned up very early.

“They took him away and were there for a while carrying out a search.

“Everyone is shocked at his arrest."
