A POLICE officer who was sexually assaulted in the line of duty in a horrific ordeal has been nominated for a national policing award.

On May 22, 2022, PC Chloe Chapman responded to an incident relating to two males fighting and a possible stabbing at Winton Recreation Ground.

One of the men involved was described as highly aggressive trying to start fights with numerous random members of the public.

The offender then dropped his trousers and started to engage in a sex act while screaming and shouting at people in the area.

He began to attack PC Chapman, pulling at her hair, striking out, and grappling at her protective equipment and clothing while licking and kissing her face.

She became trapped in the police vehicle with the violent man, who was reported to have a knife, before she was sexually assaulted.

Despite the horror and fear she was experiencing, she remained focused

PC Chapman was helped by a member of the public as they managed to drag the offender out of the vehicle. She then exited the vehicle, drawing her taser as he began to flee.

Despite having been both physically and sexually assaulted, she chased after him. When she caught up with him, he threw himself to the floor as if to submit.

In a last attempt to flee, the offender sprung to his feet, ignoring commands to stay down on the floor so the taser was deployed a second time, but it failed, and he began to charge at a member of the public.

After multiple attempts, he was finally detained after being tackled to the ground by a bystander.

Dorset Police Federation chair James Dimmack said: “PC Chapman suffered a disgusting and highly personal attack. Despite this violation, she remained focused on the job at hand and principally keeping people safe with no thought for her own safety.

“It is unthinkable for most to be confronted by this sort of situation and most would simply not be able to perform in the way PC Chapman has. I am incredibly proud of her and the way she represents Dorset Police.”
