WHILE we wait for spring to deliver us some dryer, warmer weather, the Echo looks back at a lovely summer in Poole - that of 1983.
While these pictures were being snapped locally The Rolling Stones signed a new contract with CBS Records on August 20. At $28 million, it was the largest contract in history up to that time.
A press statement was released by Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon of The Clash on September 1, announcing that Mick Jones had been fired from the group.
The first Now compilation album was released on November 28. Among the many hits on the double record/ cassette tapes were You Can’t Hurry Love by Phil Collins, Red Red Wine from UB40 and Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart.
The best-selling single in the UK was Culture Club’s Karma Chameleon and the top-selling album was Thriller by Michael Jackson.
