THE boss of engineering giant Siemens – which employs 500 people in Poole – has confirmed his commitment to the UK.

The company had written to its 14,000 UK staff ahead of last year’s EU referendum, setting out concerns about a vote to leave.

But it subsequently said that it would be staying in the UK.

Siemens has around 500 manufacturing and administrative staff at Sopers Lane, where it makes traffic lights and road signals.

Chief executive Joe Kaesar told Sky News he had spoken to customers and staff after the referendum, with a message that "we are here to say we are going to continue to serve our customers".

He added: “Nothing has really changed since then and so far I have to say we have been well advised to do exactly this.”

Ahead of the referendum, Siemens wrote to staff that the UK would “remain an important market” after a leave vote but could become a “less attractive place to do business”.
