WHAT a contrast there is between the obliging Hi-De-Hi chalet girl Peggy and the dastardly, scheming Miss Hannigan who runs a children’s orphanage in New York.
Su Pollard is superb in this role and she is supported by a 40-strong cast. David McAlister is a convincing billionaire in the role of Oliver Warbucks who takes Annie on a two-week vacation that lasts a lifetime.
13-year-old Lauren Arnison fits the part of Annie with style and panache, singing and dancing her way from rags to riches. But the real stars are the children of the orphanage, members of the Stagewise Theatre, not forgetting Sandy the dog.
Praise must be given to Alan Miller-Bunford for his elaborate sets. His grand staircase could have come from a stately home and his Christmas tree is magnificent.
Annie is directed and choreographed by Roger Hannah. The show ends on Saturday with two performances at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
