IF the winter blues suddenly make an unscheduled appearance this August, the only place to be will be at the Regent in Christchurch where Sinclair Productions are premiering their latest show, Bring Me Sunshine – The Morecambe & Wise Years.
Curtain up at the Regent will be at 2.30pm on the afternoon of Tuesday August 9 and Tuesday August 16. Eric and Ernie became Britain’s most popular comedy double act, appearing in variety, radio, film and television.
They first met in 1941 at the Nottingham Empire Theatre and finally formed their partnership after World War II in 1948.
Their first TV appearances were in 1954, but their most successful period on the small screen was probably their years on BBC from 1968-77, together with their Christmas Specials on both BBC and ITV.
Morecambe & Wise’s audience levels on Saturday nights were so high that celebrities queued up to be on the show, where they were inevitably made the butt of the comedy duo’s jokes and insults. Sandy Sinclair and Tony Edwards from Barton-on-Sea based Sinclair Productions, bring the unique comedy of Eric and Ernie back to life in this loving celebration of this classic act. The show will be full of Eric and Ernie’s iconic one liners. They will be supported by a multi-talented company, who will help with all the sketches, skits and comedy mayhem.
Bring Me Sunshine was Eric and Ernie’s signature tune and there will be plenty of other sing-along songs in between all of the gags.
