A POOLE mother critically injured in a caravan crash over the bank holiday weekend has died.

The 48-year-old suffered life threatening injuries when the Land Rover Discovery she was travelling in overturned on the A35 between Dorchester and Bridport at 1.05pm on Saturday.

A Dorset Police spokesman said the woman died in hospital yesterday morning.

Her family have been informed and an inquest will be held at a later date.

The woman was travelling with husband and young son when their car, which was towing a caravan, overturned at Askerswell.

She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with what was described as “life-threatening” injuries.

Her 52-year-old husband, who was driving, suffered minor injuries and was taken along with their 11-year-old son to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.

The youngster escaped injury in the single vehicle crash, which saw the vehicle roll several times after losing control.

The horror crash brings the total number of fatalities on Dorset roads this year to a tragic 19. There were 25 fatal accidents in 2012.

Officers would like to hear from any witnesses to the collision, or who saw the manner of the driver of the vehicle prior to the incident, to call PC Gareth Bacon of Weymouth police on 101, quoting incident number 24:277.

The incident happened just hours after a 60-year-old female pedestrian was also airlifted after suffering serious head injuries in a collision with a male cyclist in Langton Matravers.

Her condition was yesterday described as critical and she remains in a medically-induced coma.

The crash took place at 11.10am next to a bus stop opposite the entrance to Leeson House.

The 61-year-old Bournemouth cyclist was taken to Poole General Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
