THERE were severe delays on the A31 heading west at Picket Post after a car fire this afternoon.
The vehicle has been totally destroyed in the blaze, which happened just east of Picket Post.
Traffic was thought to be queuing for at least four miles while the fire service attends the scene.
It is the sixth incident on the road in a week.
The road was blocked for around half an hour, with traffic held, but both lanes have since reopened.
A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said that crews from Burley and Ringwood were sent to the scene at 2.05pm.
Queues stretched back as far as Cadnam even after the road was fully re-opened around an hour later.
They found a car well alight and confirmed that it had been severely damaged by fire.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have put out the flames.
A spokesman for Hampshire Police said that it had been made aware of the incident but officers had not been called to the scene.
