A LEISURE centre has been evacuated after a fire in the basement this morning.
Fire crews worked to extinguish the fire in the basement of The Junction sports and leisure centre at Broadstone.
The fire is now out, Dorset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed, and an investigation into the cause is under way.
There have been five crews in attendance, using two sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a CO2 extinguisher.
A thermal imaging camera was also in use to try and see if the fire had spread.
The basement of the building in Station Approach was heavily smoke-logged, a spokesperson for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said.
They were advising people avoid the area while they deal with the blaze.
Station Approach was closed while the fire was dealt with, but has now reopened.
