A CAR fire prompted the closure of one northbound lane of the A338 Spur Road.
Emergency services were called just after 2pm and recovery is awaited.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said the fire involves a Ford S-Max, registered to a man from Verwood.
No one has been hurt but the front of the vehicle is believed to be burnt out.
There are delays between Blackwater Junction and Ashley Heath as a result of the lane closure.
The Spur Road has been the scene of major delays for months due to resurfacing work and the closure of part of the Ashley Heath roundabout from tonight is expected to make the delays worse.
