A YOUNG woman in her 20s was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a head-on crash in Wareham on Saturday.
The A351 Sandford Road was closed near Holton Heath for much of the afternoon as a result of the two-car collision, which took place just before 3.30pm.
A blue Volkswagen Polo and a grey Peugeot 206 collided head-on, blocking the road and causing significant front-end damage to both vehicles.
Police say the woman, who was a passenger in the Polo, was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
She had suffered serious injuries to her leg, hip and pelvis.
It is not believed her injuries are life threatening or life changing.
Two other people - the driver of the Polo and the driver of the Peugeot - sustained minor injuries and were taken to Poole Hospital by road ambulance.
The road was closed between the Organford junction and the Morden Road junction.
Fire crews from Poole and Dorchester attended, as well as paramedics and police.
A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "The incident was reported to us at around 3.30pm.
"Two vehicles were involved in a collision and the road was closed. A woman in her mid to late 20s suffered a pelvic injury."
He said both vehicles were recovered, and officers are investigating the incident.
"The passenger of the Polo was airlifted to hospital," he said.
"Both of the other casualties sustained slightly injuries and were taken to Poole Hospital for treatment."
There were traffic delays of around an hour in the area as a result of the road closure, with queues both ways between Wareham and Morden.
Police reopened the road once both vehicles were recovered from the scene and specialist officers had investigated the road and the damage.
