A SPATE of graffiti reported in Winton last week covers a far wider area of the town, police have said.
The force said the “spate of criminal damage” had occurred over a three week period and involved graffiti being sprayed on shops and other businesses in Northbourne, Wallisdown, Moordown, Bearwood and Kinson.
An investigation is under way and a spokesman said similar ‘tags’ had been used across the town.
North Bournemouth Neighbourhood Inspector Andy Edwards said: “Graffiti can make the public feel unsafe and raise the fear of crime. It can look unsightly and it also costs a lot of money to clean up.
“It is an offence of criminal damage and anyone found guilty could face a fine or even imprisonment.
“I would ask anyone who has been a victim of graffiti or criminal damage to report this to us so that we can take action.”
The force is asking people who suspect they may know who is responsible or who witness anything suspicious to call them on 101.
Last week the Winton Traders’ Association offered a £100 reward for information which leads to any of the perpetrators being prosecuted.
Residents are being urged to get a photo of anyone spraying graffiti on a wall and send it to the My Bournemouth app or email it to ask@bournemouth.gov.uk.
Graffiti can be reported to the council by telephone on 01202 451451.
