THE two funicular railway lift carriages damaged during the recent East Cliff landslide have been successfully hauled to safety.
Engineers used a huge 120-tonne crane to lift the carriages to the top off East Overcliff Drive earlier today.
This crane, which is as tall as ten double decker buses was brought in to remove the carriages and debris, including large boulders, on Thursday.
The East Cliff lift was knocked of its rails during the landslip, which happened last month.
Tonnes of rubble plummeted 100ft onto the promenade, destroying a toilet block.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
The Edwardian railway was built in 1908.
