TWO men have been arrested after a man was killed in a car crash in Southbourne in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, a Polish national, was travelling in a Mercedes minibus that was involved in a collision with a blue Honda Jazz.

He died at the scene.

Police were called to the junction of Southbourne Road and Parkwood Road shortly before 12.55am.

Firefighters and paramedics were also called.

A passenger from the Polish-registered minibus - a 31-year-old man - was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin has been informed.

Three other men aged 21, 26 and 54 suffered minor injuries.

The three men were inside the minibus at the time of the crash.

They were treated at the scene by paramedics.

The driver of the Honda car - a 44-year-old man from the Bournemouth area - also suffered minor injuries.

He was taken to Bournemouth Hospital for treatment.

Two men aged 21 and 26 and both from Poland have been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

They are currently assisting officers with their enquiries.

The road was closed by police for several hours during the night to allow collision investigators to examine the scene of the crash.

Part of the pavement close to the junction was gouged away in the collision.

There were also fluids on the road.

A number of business cards promoting Polish company Speedbus were found littering the carriageway.

The company offers transportation to Holland, Germany, Belgium and the UK, as well as parcel deliveries and removal services.

The Daily Echo has contacted Speedbus for comment.

Drivers for the company have “years of experience” and are “committed to the goal of a comfortable, safe journey”, according to the Speedbus.pl website.

Employees are “very familiar” with both traffic regulations and the route of travel, it is said.

The company also reassures customers: “Travelling with us, you arrive at the address indicated seamlessly, quickly, safely and on time.”

Customers’ reviews can be seen on the website, with a number giving five-star recommendations.

Sergeant Mark Scammell, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, called for anyone with information to contact police.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the collision, to contact police,” he said.

The coroner has been notified.
