A POOLE road is closed and diversions put in place after a sinkhole opened up in the middle of the carriageway.
BCP Council was called to Princess Road in Branksome after the hole appeared between the junctions with Silver Birch Close and Copper Beech Close.
Highway workers at the scene said they were trying to establish how it happened and were carrying out repairs.
Residents told the Echo the manhole-sized gap had appeared at some time on Tuesday afternoon.
Barry Sparkes, Street Scene Team Manager, BCP Council told the Daily Echo: “We are aware of a void under the carriageway on Princess Road in Poole and are currently investigating the cause.
“We are undertaking an emergency repair today and the carriageway will be reinstated tonight.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while these works are taking place.”
