THE NPAS helicopter was sent up over Charminster on Friday after a thief was spotted ripping lead from a roof.
Police were called to St Alban's Avenue, which lies between Charminster and Queen's Park, at 10.30am.
No arrests have yet been made.
A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "We were called to a report of lead being stolen from the roof of a building.
"Officers carried out a search of the area for the offender, assisted by the NPAS helicopter.
"No arrests have been made at this stage."
