BEACHGOERS were left stunned this morning after dolphins were spotted breaching around Bournemouth beach.
A group of up to 20 bottlenose dolphins were spotted frolicking around in the water, following boats out at sea.
Lexi Inman was working along the beach when she saw the aquatic mammals splash around.
She said: “It was really amazing to see.
“There was a couple of us who saw them and several of them were following a fishing boat and some were getting close to the beach.
“Ten minutes later me and my colleague had walked down to Boscombe beach and we saw the dolphins again.”
Bottlenose dolphins can weigh up to 590kg and can grow up to four metres long.
They are believed to some of the smartest animals in the world, and are extremely curious and will often approach people to investigate.
Common bottlenose dolphins develop individualised whistles to communicate with other dolphins their location, condition and identity.
