A VAN fire was extinguished in close proximity to a Wareham sports centre last night while its owner looked on.
Two crews from Wareham were called to the Purbeck Sports Centre in Worgret Road at 8.11pm on Tuesday, June 14, last night following reports that a van was on fire.
The blaze, concentrated in the van’s roof space, was in close proximity to the building. As a result, crews used one hose reel jet and small tools to extinguish it – with the call to stop coming at 8.24pm.
The vehicle’s owner was in attendance during the incident and a cause has not yet been established, however it is believed to have been accidental according to a Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.
Wareham Fire Station is located less than half a mile away from the Purbeck Sports Centre.
