SIXTY Million Postcards is a venue I have always associated with a good night out and great live music- not somewhere I’d typically grab a bite for lunch.

But a Sunday afternoon visit reminded me why I should try something different every once in a while.

Since opening in 2006, Sixty Million Postcards has remained a popular bar and eatery in Bournemouth town centre.

Its location in Exeter Road means it is close to a number of car parks, including the Winter Gardens and the BH2 complex, making it an accessible choice for lunch.

It is also not far from the seafront and is at the heart of Bournemouth’s night life- a pretty good spot if you ask me.

On arrival to Sixty Million Postcards, you pass through the outdoor seating area, which is described as “Bournemouth’s sunniest beer garden”.

While it was rainy on the Sunday afternoon I visited, you could imagine it would be a lovely place to sit on a warm summer’s day.

Walking into the venue, I spent time taking in its artsy and unique interior décor, and appreciated its incredibly spacious feel.

There is bar area which stretches around the walls and a mix of booths, sofas and table seating- creating a cosy and casual feel.

After getting settled in a booth, my friend and I wasted no time looking through the menu, struggling to pick between options of burgers, fish and chips, chicken dishes, and tempting sharers.

I was particularly impressed by the variety of vegetarian meals on offer. There were plant based burgers, nourish bowls, curries and casseroles.

After lots of umming and ahing, we put our orders in, and while there was a bit of a wait for the food, it was definitely worth it.

For mains, I had the ‘Winner Winner Chicken Dinner’ which consisted of southern-fried crispy chicken, garlic and smoked paprika corn, chips and chicken gravy.

My friend had the ‘Big Cow Burger’- a burger stacked with a beef patty, beef brisket, cheese sauce and tobacco onions, with sides of garlic and smoked paprika corn and seasoned fries. We also shared a side of Mac n Cheese.

Every dish came out piping hot, but of course, it looked too good to wait for it to cool down.

We were both particularly impressed with the Mac n Cheese, which was spectacularly cheesy and creamy, and topped with a panko crumb.

The garlic and smoked paprika corn was another favourite- it was was buttery and packed with flavour.

The portions were very generous too, and we felt like we had got an impressive amount of food for our money. We did have to leave a bit on our plates to save room for pudding though.

We went for the warm chocolate brownie which came with salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream- this was the perfect sweet treat and a great way to end the dining experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed the lunch offerings at Sixty Million Postcards, and will definitely return there for something other than a night out.
