THE MET Office has updated a yellow weather warning for a spell of windy weather set to bring gusts of 50mph to Dorset this week.
An alert for Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and the rest of Dorset now covers most of Wednesday, April 12.
It was previously in force from 3pm on Tuesday, April 11, until 6am the following day.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “After a brief lull in winds through the early hours of Wednesday, west or northwest winds are expected to increase once more during Wednesday morning, then remain strong for much of the day.
“Gusts of 40-50 mph are expected widely within the warning area, but some coastal areas, especially in parts of southwest Wales and Cornwall, could see gusts above 60 mph at times.
“Outbreaks of heavy rain or showers will accompany the strong winds.”
In terms of what to expect, the Met Office says:
- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
- Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
The current Met Office forecast for Wednesday, April 12:
- 7am – sunny, wind gusts of 25mph
- 10am – cloudy, wind gusts of 37mph
