RESIDENTS heard a loud bang as a car burst into flames in the middle of an industrial area.
Firefighters and police rushed to Allens Lane in Poole on Friday night (July 7) to tackle a car on fire near a warehouse.
Nearby resident Adam Osman was at home shortly after 11pm when he saw large plumes of smoke in the sky.
He went outside to investigate and saw the vehicle completely ablaze.
Adam told the Echo: “The whole thing was destroyed. We were pretty far from it at first and were walking towards it when we heard this loud bang which sounded like a car exhaust backfiring.
“The flames shot up and so we decided to stay right back and not get closer.”
As Adam was preparing to call the fire brigade, a crew from Hamworthy arrived and promptly extinguished the blaze.
A spokeswoman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said one crew from Hamworthy attended the fire and that the police were already on scene.
She added the blaze was extinguished with a single hose reel jet, two breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera.
Their stop came in at 11.41pm, she added, and no known cause was listed on the incident log.
The destroyed car has since been removed, however charred remnants of the fire are still visible on the road.
