A HUGE clean up of Bournemouth town centre takes place this week.

The Big Bournemouth Clean Up takes to the streets on Wednesday, March 27.

Organised by Bournemouth Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID), around 50 volunteers from Bournemouth businesses will join the Town Rangers and BID staff for the major spruce up.

Among those rolling up their sleeves are staff from Gentings Casino, City Centre Recruitment, Evelyn & Partners, Sharkeys, Bournemouth University, Bournemouth University International College, Avenue Centre, Bobby & Co, Lush and Experience UX.

They will each be armed with litter pickers and bags.

BID chief operating Officer, Paul Kinvig, said: “Once again, we have been overwhelmed with support from our town centre businesses, who have stepped up with enthusiasm to give their time and effort at our clean-up event.

"This is a great testament of their commitment to Bournemouth, and the pride they take in helping our town be the best it can be. We are, of course, incredibly grateful to Atlas Cleaning and Turtle Bay for their brilliant support too."

He added: “Each year, this event makes a huge impact and this year’s event comes at an ideal time for us to give the town centre a great clean up ahead of the bank holiday weekend and the school Easter holidays.

"We’re excited to get to work and help ensure our town centre is looking its best ahead of this important period.”

The event is being run with support from Atlas Cleaning, while Turtle Bay, in Old Christchurch Road, will be hosting the teams with hot refreshments and food at the beginning of the clean-up.

The Big Bournemouth Clean Up aligns with the Great British Spring Clean, which takes place from March 15 to 31.

This is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign run annually by Keep Britain Tidy – which celebrates its landmark 70th anniversary this year.

Chief executive at Keep Britain Tidy, Allison Ogden-Newton, said: “Thank you for once again for making this very special campaign possible.

"In our 70th year, we are very proud of our history and continuing our role in fighting to protect Britain’s environment.”
