Police were called to the train tracks to deal with a concern for welfare incident.
Officers from Dorset Police and British Transport Police attended the incident which was reported at Dorchester South.
The missing person was eventually located further along the line at Bournemouth railway station and has been taken to a place of safety.
During this time trains had to run at reduced speed on all lines.
Disruption continued until around 4pm today (Tuesday, April 16), and affected trains running to and from Weymouth.
A spokesperson for South Western Railway (SWR) said: “We have been informed that police are dealing with an incident near the railway at Dorchester South. This means that trains are running at a reduced speed through this station.
“For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.
“We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey.”
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Dorchester South railway station to reports of a concern for welfare.
"Officers attended and a person was located at Bournemouth railway station in connection. They have been taken to a place of safety.”
