A WIMBORNE school has appointed a new teacher after its previous one left with immediate effect in March.

Queen Elizabeth's School has appointed Thomas Neill who is the current headteacher at Wey Valley Academy in Weymouth.

Mr Neill will begin his role in September with Initio Learning Trust 'thoroughly impressed by the leader’s professionalism and determination' in his previous roles.

Mr Neill said: “This opportunity is hugely exciting and I am drawn to the challenge of leading one of Dorset's largest and most prestigious schools.

“I am confident that I have the knowledge, skills and experience required to rapidly improve the quality of education at QE School and secure the necessary improvements.

“Every decision that we make will prioritise the interests and advancement of our young people. One of my first actions will be to establish strong working relationships with our families and to listen to students about their experience of school life."

Mr Neills's appointment comes after previous head teacher, Simon Firth, left the school to 'pursue other opportunities in the education sector'.

Mr Firth was replaced by the school's director of secondary education, Brian Boyes, who became interim headmaster.

Mr Boyes said: “I am very confident that this highly intelligent and professional leader is the right person for the job here at QE School and it will be a privilege to pass the reins over to him.

“His proven track record in raising standards will see QE School go from strength to strength.

“His thorough understanding of the curriculum and assessment will mean all our students will have the chance to flourish and maximise their full potential.”

Mr Neill has worked in a range of comprehensive schools as a middle and senior teacher and spent a year teaching in Florida, USA.

Initio Learning Trust has stated Mr Neill has said he will support the 'Christian ethos' of QE having seen its value in his upbringing.

Liz West, CEO of Initio Learning Trust, said: “He has been central to the transformation of education at Wey Valley Academy, part of the Ambitions Academies Trust, in Weymouth, enabling the school to move from strength to strength.

“Mr Neill understands teaching and learning and will be relentless in his desire to improve the school and raise standards for all our students.”
