HOSPITAL patients in Bournemouth are among the first in the country to benefit from special ceiling tiles to help them relax during medical procedures.
SkyCeiling tiles, designed to engage the eye and relax patients, have been installed in the interventional radiology department at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
The bright tiles, obtained through funding from the hospital’s League of Friends, give the effect of a more airy and calming environment.
They were introduced to provide a distraction for patients who often have to remain awake throughout procedures.
Lynne Teece, lead interventional radiographer at the hospital, said: “Since the installation of the SkyCeilings we have had many positive comments from patients, staff and visitors.
“They provide an excellent focus for patients having procedures in addition to proving an obvious talking point. This helps to diffuse some of the tension and anxiety which patients often feel.
“We were thrilled to have our application for funding for the SkyCeilings approved.
“We are extremely grateful to the League of Friends who give up their time to raise money for projects throughout the hospital to benefit our patients.”
