A CAR-MAD Bournemouth man has broken a UK speed record.
Brett Ainley, 57, broke the UK quarter-mile record for a Porsche 928, recording 113.3mph in 13.035 seconds, beating the previous best of 108mph in 13.39 seconds.
Brett, who is a member of the Southern Porsche Club, shocked his friends as the car is the one he uses daily and had not been stripped out to lose weight.
There was one difference to its road incarnation though – a nitrous oxide boost – although remarkably it was running at only 210 horse power, barely 10 per cent of the 2,000 on tap.
The record run raised cash for Help for Heroes.
