A POOLE dad has sent up camp outside his own flat in protest at the “flawed system” that has left him facing homelessness.
Gary Fisk, 46, has rented out his flat in Upton Court, Upton, for the last 14 years.
He now needs to return to his property after being asked to move out of the house he was renting in Lytchett Matravers.
But despite following the correct protocols, Mr Fisk says he is powerless to make the current tenant leave.
He decided to show his disgust at his predicament by pitching a tent outside the building until he is able to return to his flat. “The system stinks,” said Mr Fisk, who lives with his 14-year-old daughter.
“It is my flat yet I am the one left out in the cold. It is so wrong.
“I have issued the statutory two months’ notice, but if the tenant won’t leave you can’t force them out.”
Mr Fisk said he has now been forced to go to court to seek an eviction notice and will then have to call in the bailiffs.
The whole process could take months – and cost hundreds of pounds – with Mr Fisk and his teenage daughter remaining homeless all the while.
“You work hard to pay for a place and then the odds are stacked against you,” added Mr Fisk, who also has three other children to support.
The father has even offered to return the tenant’s full deposit and an extra £200 incentive to move out.
If the tenant is served an order and effectively declared homeless, Purbeck council would step in to try to re-house them.
The tenant declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Echo.
Grey’s Estate Agents confirmed they had found Mr Fisk’s tenant in February and she had passed all the relevant reference checks. They also confirmed the serving of the two months’ notice on July 10, which expired on September 10.
