KIND-HEARTED Daily Echo readers have rallied round to help the family of a five-year-old boy dying from a rare and inoperable brain tumour.
A Wishlist for David, an appeal launched earlier this week, has brought offers of help described as “mind-blowing” and “unbelievable” by family members.
And one of the latest offers means the little boy will meet Santa on Christmas Eve.
Chris Bullen, who runs the Poole Park Railway, has had a quiet word with Father Christmas, who has agreed to travel direct from his grotto to David’s house on December 24.
And United Taxis in Bournemouth have granted another wish – to provide transport for the family on Christmas Day.
David, whose name has been changed at the request of his family, was diagnosed with the tumour in September. He is currently undergoing six weeks of intensive radiotherapy, which should enable him to live like a normal child for two months. Beyond that time, doctors have offered little hope.
After hearing the devastating news, David’s parents gave up work to look after their son and set up the Red Ranger Community Fund, named after his beloved Power Rangers.
A wishlist was drawn up, much of which has been granted by Echo readers. The family has already been promised a new Xbox Kinect, a snow machine for a white Christmas, a special visit from the Power Rangers and the services of a family photographer.
Numerous fundraising events have been planned by members of the public, including caricature artist Paul Tyler who will donate the proceeds of a day’s work in Bournemouth Square on December 9.
The Ringwood-based Toy Exchange and Donate Scheme donated £250 after a sale in Ringwood on Saturday and a fun run will take place on December 12, leaving from Bournemouth Pier at noon to go to Alum Chine and back.
