WE all know even Jedi get a census form – but now car park machines seem to count too.
Startled staff at Moors Valley Country park had to laugh when they were opening up the morning post yesterday and found the car park ticketing machine had earned its own census form.
The questionnaire, one of 26 million sent out by the Office for National Statistics, is addressed to “The Occupier: Pay on Foot Shelter”.
Ranger Katie Davis said: “I think it’s hilarious. We’re all getting ready for our comedy day on Sunday for Comic Relief so when we saw the form we started thinking it had started early.”
Everyone is required by law to take part in the census, which takes place every 10 years.
Census collectors will call on people who don’t return their forms by April 6 and penalties include a fine of up to £1000 and a criminal record.
Moors Valley have not yet decided whether the Pay on Foot Shelter will answer the 26 questions about its job, first language and religious beliefs by post or online.
A spokesman for Census UK said they prefer to err on the side of caution and send forms to all properties in order to make the survey accurate.
He added: “The postal address list used for census has been built from the best and most up-to-date national sources.”
The park’s Red Nose Day fun activities, including a fancy dress contest, a Where's Wally competition, a joke trail and silly walk competition, run from 10am on Sunday. Call 01425 470721 for details.
