A WOMAN from Winton completed a mini triathlon in aid of a national charity.
Louise Hanlon-Brooks, 39, a mother of three and a resources planning manager for the School of Tourism at Bournemouth University, took part in the challenge to raise money for The Stroke Association, after her father, Roger, suffered a series of mini-strokes in October 2011.
She said: “The swim element was in the sea, I cycled from my home in Winton to my parent’s house in King’s Park and then ran down to Boscombe beach. The first part of the triathlon was supported by my son, Nathaniel, who cycled alongside.
“I ran into the sea accompanied by my brother, Joel, and his nephew, Joseph.
“Thanks to the speed and excellence of the ambulance crew, Royal Bournemouth Hospital and the care from Professor JSK Kwan, in the stroke ward, which had opened that very weekend.
“I was struck by how much my Dad’s illness affected him and his immediate family and was aware of how lucky we were that dad made a full recovery.
“Many are not so lucky so I decided to raise money for The Stroke Association, who offer invaluable care for those who have suffered a stroke.
“Thanks to my colleagues in the School of Tourism at Bournemouth University, friends and family, I ended up raising £619.”
