MESSAGES of support from well-wishers have been pouring in for a cyclist who is fighting for his life after a Poole crash.
Jason Falconer, who is in his 40s, sustained serious head injuries in a collision with a car as he rode along Constitution Hill Road on Friday.
Mr Falconer has been transferred to Southampton Hospital’s neurological unit, where he remains in a critical condition.
He has been Bournemouth’s Sustrans Bike It Officer for four years, working to promote cycling and road safety in schools.
Sarah Toy, Head of Education at Sustrans, said: “Jason is an asset to our organisation.
“His talent and energy have helped to get thousands of local children cycling to school safely.
“We wish him and his family all the very best.”
Mr Falconer’s successes in increasing participation in cycling include raising the number of children cycling to school at Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School from eight to 35.
This year he is overseeing 19 schools in Bournemouth and Poole.
He is also a trained British Cycling coach, a Bikeability Accredited Instructor, a walking group leader and an Orienteering coach.
A former railway guard and conductor, he gained a first degree in Adventure Recreation from the University of Bedfordshire, and previously worked in Australia.
John Hayter, of Dorset Cycling Network, said: “Jason has always been a very sensible rider.
“Everyone at the network is very distressed to hear he has had this accident.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back out on his bike as soon as possible.”
In his Bike It officer profile Mr Falconer said: “My Dad put me on a bike when I was six, and although I could hardly reach the pedals, the absolute thrill and dynamism of cycling captivated me then and has held me ever since.”
