CHERRIES defender Baily Cargill has been named in the England under-20s squad for the Toulon Tournament.

England will travel across the Channel to face China, Ivory Coast, Mexico and Morocco in the competition, which starts on Wednesday.

Cargill could potentially follow in the footsteps of Cherries boss Howe, who featured twice at the Toulon Tournament in 1998, this time for England under-21s.

The winners of Group B will take on the victors in Group A, which contains hosts France, the Netherlands, the United States, Costa Rica and Qatar.

The runners up in both groups will contest a third place play-off.

Centre-back Cargill enjoyed a notable introduction to international football when he scored on his debut for England under-20s in their 2-2 friendly draw with Canada at Dean Court in November.

He earned a further cap in a 4-2 penalty-shootout win over Mexico in March, following a 1-1 draw at The Hive.

Elevated to the Cherries first-team squad last summer, the 19-year-old was not used by Howe in the promotion-winning campaign in the Championship.

However, he did play a starring role in the run to the League Cup quarter-final.

Cargill did not miss a single minute of victories over Exeter, Northampton, Cardiff and West Brom and also played the full 90 minutes of the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Dean Court.

Winchester-born Cargill, who also featured in the 5-1 FA Cup victory over Rotherham in January, is under contract at Cherries until 2017.
