SCOTT Mitchell hailed the power of social media after being crowned the BDO’s men’s player of the year.
The 2015 world champion learned of his latest accolade while competing in the Belgian Open over the weekend.
Mitchell told the Daily Echo: “Darts is the gift that keeps on giving. I feel humbled and honoured because it is a huge accolade.
“It was made extra special by the fact I did not need to be nominated by my own county. Social media has been a great way of letting people know what I’m doing and to get wider recognition is great for me and the county.”
Meanwhile, the Bransgore-based star was happy with his best run in an individual competition since his Lakeside triumph in Antwerp – despite the continuation of his semi-final hoodoo.
“It was my fourth semi-final in six or seven years there,” he added. “Some people might call it a jinx but I prefer to look at the amount of wins I have picked up.”
Mitchell plays in a pairs exhibition alongside three-time women’s world champion Anastasia Dobromyslova in Exeter on Friday.
He then appears with the BDO World Darts Championship trophy at The Great Blooming Tea Party at the Red House Museum, Christchurch from 11am on Saturday.
