EDDIE Howe believes "it's difficult to tell" if Ryan Fraser's ongoing contract situation has affected his performances this season.

The Scot was one of the standout performers in the top-flight during 2018-19, providing 14 assists from the wing, second only to Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

He also netted seven goals for Cherries, but the 25-year-old has struggled to replicate that form this term.

In his 20 Premier League appearances, Fraser has netted just once and provided three assists so far.

The former Aberdeen man's contract is due to expire this summer, which has led to speculation surrounding his future with the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool among clubs linked with a move for Fraser in recent months.

Howe has always retained the stance that he wants Fraser to sign a new contract with Cherries.

Asked whether he feels the uncertainty has affected the winger's performances this season, boss Howe told the Daily Echo: "It’s difficult to tell. I think my only focus with Ryan is getting him back to his very best form from now onwards, there’s no point looking back."

He added: "Ryan’s situation is quite clear.

"There’s no change to it. But he’s still a very important member of our squad."
