EDDIE Howe says he will "wait and see" what the future holds for goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

The Bosnian is due to return to Cherries early next week after his six-month loan spell at Azerbaijani side Qarabag came to an end.

Asked for an update on the 32-year-old's situation, Howe told the Daily Echo: "He’s not back.

"He’ll be back in the next few days I believe.

"We’ll wait and see what the next step is with Asmir."

Begovic has been linked with a move away to a host of English clubs with West Ham "offered the chance to sign him on loan" from Cherries, according to a report on Sky Sports.

Championship clubs Derby and Birmingham have also been linked with a move for the goalkeeper.

Quizzed on whether it was likely Begovic would be moved on again with Aaron Ramsdale now established as Cherries' first choice goalkeeper, Howe replied: "As I said, we’ll wait and see."

Begovic joined Cherries from Chelsea for around £10million in 2017 and has played 62 times for Eddie Howe's men.

But after losing his spot in the side in January last year, Begovic has played just twice competitively for the club since with his last appearance coming against Burnley in April.
