SCOTT Mitchell has been drawn to face teenage talent Leighton Bennett at the UK Open this week.

Dorset star Mitchell, who qualifies for the event through his performances on the PDC Challenge Tour, will get his campaign underway in Minehead on Friday.

And first up is a battle against 18-year-old Bennett, who recently won his PDC tour card via Q School. The Lincoln-born ace has already racked up six wins on tour this year, including a 6-1 thrashing of multi-event winner Dave Chisnall. He also hit a nine-dart finish, during a win over Lukas Wenig.

Mitchell, 53, faced ‘Boom Boom’ Bennett back in 2020, at the final staging of the BDO World Championship, in London, emerging a 3-1 winner in sets.

The pair also met at Q School last month, Bennett averaging 103.91 and winning 6-1 in legs on his way to sealing a tour card, as Mitchell missed out.

The tournament will be screened live on ITV. Andrew Gilding is the reigning champion, after a shock win over three-time winner Michael van Gerwen in last year’s final.
