TWO moments of quality settled the derby between Bashley and Poole Town as the Dolphins won a battle of the makeshift defences.
Will Spetch’s dipping volley and Claudio Herbert’s 25-yard drive were the pick of the goals as Poole progressed to the second round of the Red Insure Cup with a 5-2 win at the Recreation Ground on Tuesday night.
The visitors took the lead when Taffy Richardson headed home Micky Hubbard’s corner on 26 minutes.
Bashley conceded a second five minutes later when Aaron Skelton’s deep free-kick found Spetch at the far post, his spectacular shot looping over Joe Prodomo.
Dolphins wasted further chances through Dan Cann and Russell Cook before the injured Prodomo was replaced by 17-year-old Kieran Burgess. The young stopper was powerless to stop Poole’s third as the unmarked Cook converted Herbert’s cross.
Bashley got a goal back on 50 minutes through Jake Rowley before substitute James Stokoe gave the hosts hope with 18 minutes to play.
But an opportunist strike from Herbert swung the game back in Poole’s favour, with Smith completing the scoring late on.
