BOURNEMOUTH back Domenick Davies has seen his Rugby World Cup glory bid cruelly snatched away after sustaining a cartilage injury during their 34-27 loss at Taunton.
The Lions utility player was due to join up with Germany’s national team for their European round five qualifier against Georgia at Tbilisi on February 6.
But Davies will have to sit out that clash and Germany’s other qualifying matches against Romania, Portugal, Russia and Spain over the next two months.
It’s a big personal blow for the full-back, who turns 32 on Monday, as he was aiming to help the Germans reach the 2011 World Cup finals in New Zealand.
Lions coach David Dunn said: “Domenick is gutted and we are saddened because it looks like he will be out for the rest of the season.
“After having a scan he’s going to have to undergo surgery.
“It’s a big blow to us and to him and we wish him all the best with his recovery.”
Chris Hughes returns to Bournemouth’s back row for their home National Three South West clash against Coney Hill tomorrow (2.15pm), but hooker Frazer Wilford is doubtful with a knee problem.
Lions are seeking revenge for a 20-14 loss in October.
