REGARDING the Daily Echo of May 24, the governors of St Joseph’s Catholic School Christchurch operate within the law of the land and administer our admission arrangements strictly in accordance with our admission policy – a copy of which is available on our website and from the school office at all times.
Like all schools, the criteria for admission are detailed in the policy and it is a parental responsibility to ensure that the correct paperwork is submitted on time.
The local authority sets a strict deadline for the submission of applications and governors are not aware of the names of applicants until a given date.
Nowadays applications are made to the Local Authority in accordance with its co-ordinated admission scheme and most are made online. Governors are not allowed to second-guess the status of any applicant or chase up paperwork even if they know that paperwork exists. The local authority would not do so either.
How else could justice and fairness to all be achieved?
BRIGID J. HINCKS (Mrs), Chair of governors, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Dorset Road, Christchurch
