A FLOOD alert is in place as heavy rain is set to pour across the area tonight.

The Environment Agency has issued the alert for the River Avon between Ringwood and Christchurch, with a yellow weather warning also put in place by the Met Office.

The agency said: “River levels remain high on the Lower Hampshire Avon due to high groundwater levels.

“Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Avon, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around tributaries between Ringwood and Christchurch.

Bournemouth Echo:

“The forecast for the next couple of days is dry with further showers on Wednesday and Thursday. Please avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk, cycle or drive through flood water.

“We will continue to monitor the weather and this message will be updated by 5:00 PM on 02/05/2024, or as the situation changes.”
