HEAVY rain could cause disruption in parts of Dorset, the Met Office has warned.

A yellow alert is in force for parts of the county including Swanage, Blandford, Sturminster Newton and Gillingham.

The warning is in force until around midnight tonight.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “A band of rain will move east across the area through Monday to bring a spell of heavy and persistent rain.

“Rain will reach Cornwall during Monday morning but won't reach eastern parts of the warning area until Monday afternoon. 20-30 mm of rain is expected to fall widely with as much as 40-50 mm over some hills.”

In terms of what to expect, the Met Office said flooding may occur and public transport may be disrupted.

According to the Met Office, heavy rain is expected from 2pm until midnight.

There is currently no weather warning in force for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

However, heavy rain is also expected in the BCP area between 3pm and midnight.
