A FAMILY-OWNED Italian restaurant is bringing a holiday atmosphere to Bournemouth through its summer beachside pop-up.

El Murrino, located in Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth, Ashley Road in Poole and now on East Cliff Beach, is the Echo’s Trader of the Week.

The family run business opened in 2017 after brothers, Henry and Rony El Murr set their sights on providing Bournemouth with authentic wood-fired pizzas.

“We always wanted to open something together, and wanted a concept that was different,” said Henry.

“At the time no one was doing wood fired pizzas and we thought this was the type of food the area needed.”

Since its opening, El Murrino has branched out with wedding catering, festivals and Christmas markets, with this year hosting a stand in Leicester Square.

Co-owner and Henry’s partner, Catherine El Murr, said the family “had no idea” how much the business would grow but it “naturally developed”.

Four years ago, following the Covid pandemic, El Murrino launched its beachside pop-up restaurant and bar on East Cliff Beach.

“At the time they [BCP Council] wanted something to drive tourism to this part of the beach, and each year we have been making improvements,” said Henry.

The site now features outdoor seating, a VIP area, sun loungers, a kids play area and decking connecting from the promenade for easy access.

There is also a live DJ each weekend evening as well as some week nights.

Henry said they wanted to provide an exclusive area for visitors, through the VIP packages, and ensure there was something for everyone.

Catherine added how she loves to get to know the customers, with some saying the beach venue feels like they are on holiday abroad.

“We put our heart and soul into it,” said Catherine.

Henry said the beachside restaurant is a “totally different atmosphere” to the permanent locations, and he enjoys seeing all the happy customers in the sun.

El Murrino beachside is also dog friendly, serving doggy ice creams after customers return from their walks between the piers.
