When it comes to funeral arrangements, your funeral director will discuss the different types of funeral service available. Choosing a service which best reflects the individual is important as a funeral allows a grieving family and friends to remember and celebrate that person’s life.

Your chosen funeral director will issue you with a written estimate of all costs – once you have accepted these, they will complete all the necessary documentation, make payment on your behalf (known as disbursements) to doctors, clergy, cemetery or crematoria, and will carefully follow your precise instructions. There are also important decisions to make about floral arrangements, catering for the mourners and, where applicable, the type of headstone you would eventually like on the grave.

To enable you to start making funeral arrangements and register a death with your local Register Office, you will need to obtain a medical certificate of cause of death, signed by a doctor. If a coroner is involved then take instructions from them.
