Captain Planet? Crikey, I remember him, and you don’t see such elderly statesmen of cartoons readily rocking up in games these days. Nice to see you again, Cap.

But ho! He’s not here to throw you an environmental message of goodwill. No madam, Captain Planet will pound to pieces, and not because you threw that crude oil in a seal's face when you thought no one was looking. No, as far as this game is concerned, he’ll belt you because it feels nice.

To be fair, that’s true of the entire roster of Punch Time Explosion XL, but it’s still surprising to watch Captain Planet unleash grinning violence for jollies.

It’s not big or clever, but watching swathes of Cartoon Network’s finest characters, such as Samurai Jack and Johnny Bravo, smash each other to smithereens is, not to put too finer point on it, bleedin' good fun.

For the purest, the horribly inaccurate voice acting will grate, so best you whack the volume down, stick on some music and go get a sack full of cartoon violence.
