DIG out the tie-dye shirt, crusty wellies and dog on a rope. There’s a double-helping of cowpunk rock set to take place in Poole next month.
Two of Dorset’s finest bands, Pronghorn and The Skimmity Hitchers, will be supporting the new Wimborne Minster Folk Festival with a special fundraising gig at Mr Kyps in Poole on February 10. Both acts have been regulars at the legendary Wimborne folk weekend for years.
When a new team of local volunteers stepped in to save the town’s annual folk festival following its founders’ retirement last year, the bands gallantly offered to do their bit to rally support for 2013’s event. The night will see local heroes Pronghorn top the bill and unleash their brand of upbeat country and bluegrass influenced punk rock.
Meanwhile, the Skimmity Hitchers will be walking the wobbly line between country, rockabilly, punk, ska and folk – usually accompanied by their faithful badger. Doors open at 7pm with support from DJs Dapper Dan (AKA Wimborne town crier Chris Brown) and the Maccassaman.
Tickets are just £7 in advance or £10 on the door. For more information check out wimbornefolk.co.uk or mrkyps.net.
Wimborne Minster Folk Festival will take place over the weekend of 7, 8 and 9 June 2013.
