THERE is a distinct garage rock flavour to this year’s NME Awards Tour, coming to the O2 on Wednesday night.
As a frontman for supergroup The Last Shadow Puppets, alongside the Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner, Miles Kane is perhaps less in need of the exposure provided by the tour than past performers, although he does have a forthcoming album to promote.
Having established himself as a solo artist with his 2011 album Colour of the Trap, many songs on which were co-written by Turner, Kane has enough wellknown songs out there to wow the crowds at the tour’s 13 venues, and fans can expect a performance of new track You’re Gonna Get It, co-written with Paul Weller, alongside rousing singles Rearrange and Inhaler.
Headlining the tour are London-based indie art-rock quartet Django Django, whose self-titled debut album has been widely praised and was nominated for the 2012 Mercury Price.
Palma Violets another band of the garage rock revival, who emerged from nowhere in 2012 with singles ‘Best of Friends’ and ‘Last of the Summer Wine’, will see their debut album 180 released later this month with support from Pulp bassist Steve Mackey.
Following in the footsteps of the Arctic Monkeys the Lambeth-based foursome come to the tour with a well-established following on the internet.
Opening act Peace, from Birmingham, garnered much praise for their debut EP Delicious last year and released their single Wraith last month.
The tour has been instrumental in launching the careers of some of the biggest acts in music today.
