COLOURFUL singer Paloma Faith must be feeling at home in Bournemouth after appearing at Wave 105 Live! last weekend and returning this week.
The singer, who released her second album Fall To Grace last year, was already no stranger to our parts after appearing at the Larmer Tree festival last year.
Paloma will no doubt be sporting another eye-catching outfit at the BIC on Wednesday.
She wore a strangely huge shiny skirt at the Wave 105 concert at the BIC last weekend and at Bestival on the Isle of Wight two years ago her silvery white face and bright red hat and dress were quite a sight too.
She likes to use her outfits to bring different moods to the show like her idols.
“Gigs are full of light and shade,” she said.
“My biggest inspirations are probably Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich.”
And she likes to add to the drama of her shows by making a big effort.
She said: “I think it’s not enough to just stand on stage and sing the song, you have to do extra, whether it be physically moving around and giving depth to the song physically or giving a more physically emotional performance.”
The singer obviously loves clothes and is a dedicated follower of fashion “I love the way Coco Chanel dressed,” she added.
“There’s also Bjork and Grace Jones. And I love designers like Dolce and Gabbana, I keep wearing them, Alexander McQueen I think is incredible, I love all the high-end stuff like Jean Paul Gautier.
“And I think Piers Atkinson and Victoria Grant are amazing.”
Her latest album followed the success of her debut Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful? She has stayed in the limelight with the hit singles Picking Up the Pieces, 30 Minute Love Affair, Just Be and her enchanting cover of Never Tear Us Apart.
The 31-year-old has also appeared in films and television on top of her music and is trying to continue to develop her skills.
“I learn new things everyday,” she said.
“If you go through life not learning it’s a bit weird.”
And she is determined to enjoy her time at the top after helping to mentor Danny O’Donoghue’s contestants on the BBC talent show The Voice last year.
“It’s a really strange industry as at the end of the day, not that much talent breaks through,” she added.
“It makes me feel grateful for what I’ve got and what I’ve achieved – obviously I’ve worked bloody hard for it but I think there’s a certain combination of hard work, perseverance and a little sprinkling of luck.”
