A WHOLE Lotta Led is in store for Zeppelin fans in Poole.
The Led Zeppelin tribute band, which celebrated its 1,000th performance several years ago, is staging a gig at Mr Kyps in Ashley Cross tonight as it keeps alive the music of the 70s rock heroes.
When Led Zeppelin reformed in December 2007 for a special one-off show at London’s O2 Arena, they caused a media frenzy, with millions of applications for the 20,000 available tickets.
For a lot of people this may have been the first they had heard of the band, as in their heyday they shunned TV and never released singles.
Despite this, they became the biggest rock band of the 70s and quite probably the greatest rock band of all time.
Rumours that the success of their O2 show would tempt them to stage a full tour have been quashed by singer Robert Plant who wishes their legend to remain intact.
Despite disbanding in 1980 after the death of drummer John Bonham, Led Zep’s reputation and legacy of incredible songs continue to survive and appeal to an ever increasing audience of fans.
Whole Lotta Led are one of the biggest tribute acts in the UK, being full-time professional musicians dedicated to recreating the amazing songs which Led Zeppelin produced throughout their illustrious career.
Last year saw Whole Lotta Led make significant changes in line up, which enabled a wider repertoire of songs, and has enhanced their reputation with folks the length and breadth of the country.
First to join the new line-up was Lee Pryor, a truly gifted singer whose vocals have been compared favourably to the great Robert Plant.
David Wykeham-George (keyboards/second guitar) was the next welcome addition, extending the band’s sound with his keyboard skills.
Finally, Charlie Hart (drums) completed the line-up providing a driving beat which many have compared with the late, great John Bonham.
Founder members Nick Ferris (lead guitar) and Geoff Hunt (bass), who formed the band seventeen years ago, continue the band’s ethos of remaining true to Zeppelin’s great music.
Whole Lotta Led have always avoided the use of wigs and costumes, instead they concentrate on the music and recreate the sounds of Led Zeppelin’s original studio albums to an astonishing level of accuracy.
Their shows consist of songs from the entire Zeppelin back catalogue including the all time classics Whole Lotta Love and of course Stairway To Heaven.
Given the thumbs-up by no less guitar god than Jimmy Page himself, Whole Lotta Led is a tribute band worth seeing.
