IT wasn’t just the finale that was “One Singular Sensation” in the latest knockout show from Bournemouth’s Big Little Theatre School.
While “One” – almost certainly one of the most popular musical theatre songs of all time – brought Broadway Showtunes to a spectacular close it was definitely not a one hit wonder.
From beginning to end the hugely talented cast had the audience on the edge of their seats as they performed sets from a vast selection of shows, designed to appeal to everyone.
The school’s 13th annual production saw a dramatic start to the show at Bournemouth’s Pavilion theatre, with full company taking to the stage for Les Miserables.
Students from the school’s youth theatre companies then took their audience on a whirlwind tour with performances as wide-ranging as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Newsies, Annie, Matilda, The Jungle Book and West Side Story.
Two hours flew by as the audience revelled in the top-quality vocals, lively dance routines and imaginative direction.
The biggest surprise of the night was the realisation that this is an amateur production featuring youngsters aged from just seven to 19.
What doesn’t surprise anyone is that students from this amazing school regularly take up places as some of the country’s top drama schools.
Once again the combination of the scorching weather and Showtunes has kicked off summer in spectacular style in Bournemouth. Don’t miss it.
